The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) marks today its 30th anniversary. Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev, this country’s Premier Boyko Borissov, cabinet ministers and MPs are expected to attend the event. In the beginning of the transition from communism to democracy in 1990 an extraordinary congress of the Central Council of Trade Union evolved into a founding congress of the Confederation of the Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria. Professor Krastyo Petkov was elected Chairman of CITUB. The new organization was created with the idea to overcome the stereotypes of the nomenclature that impede the upholding of the workers’ rights.  Today, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria headed by its President Plamen Dimitrov and the Confederation of Labor Podkrepa are the two biggest labor unions in Bulgaria.
