Brits to get Bulgarian passports without renouncing UK citizenship until end-2020

A new bill proposed by the Bulgarian government is to change the rules related to Brits applying for Bulgarian citizenship. British citizens who have filed applications for Bulgarian citizenship before the end of the transitional period for Brexit - December 31, 2020 will not be required to renounce their UK nationality in order to receive a Bulgarian passport.  Until now, UK citizens who were citizens of a EU member state were not subject to the requirement that naturalization applicants in Bulgaria should be exempted from their previous nationality.

Current legislation in Bulgaria regarding Bulgarian citizenship requires all applicants to renounce their previous nationality unless they are citizens of a country member of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland.
