On January 6, Epiphany, Bulgarians celebrate 177 years since the birth of poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev. On this occasion, the atmosphere in Kalofer - Botev's hometown, is special, Dimitar Vladimirov from Radio Plovdiv has reported.
The day began with the traditional men's horo dance for Epiphany in the cold waters of the Tundzha River. The ritual is performed for health and attracts many people from the country and abroad, causing real euphoria. "But after the ritual, the city fell quiet, and a special silence was felt in the courtyard of the National Museum Hristo Botev. Many visitors headed to the museum to honor the memory of Botev and get to know more about him," Vladimirov says.
The anniversary was also marked with a solemn ceremony at the Hristo Botev Memorial Complex in Kalofer.
