Bulgaria has highest number of victims in passenger car accidents in EU

For the period of ten years from 2008 to 2018, the number of people killed in road accidents has decreased by 37 percent, the latest Eurostat data showsThe number of road deaths per capita is lowest in Ireland and Denmark, and highest in Romania and Bulgaria. Ireland has 29 road accident victims per 1 million inhabitants, followed by Denmark (30), Sweden (32) and the Netherlands (35). Romania leads the black list with 96 victims per 1 million inhabitants, followed by Bulgaria (87), Croatia and Latvia (87 each) and Poland (75). 

According to the statistics, in 2018  the highest rate of persons killed in passenger car accidents in the EU  - 48 fatalities per 1 million inhabitants was registered in Bulgaria. 
Romania has the highest death toll among pedestrians - 35 per 1 million inhabitants.
