US Embassy in Bulgaria: The protests are a sign of a vibrant civil society

The right to peacefully assemble is a fundamental democratic value. Demonstrations and protests are a sign of a thriving vibrant civil society. This was stated in a statement by the US Embassy in Sofia on the occasion of the civil protests that have encompassed Bulgaria in recent days. 
Every nation deserves a judiciary that is non-partisan and accountable to the rule of law, the statement reads. We support the Bulgarian people as you peacefully advocate for increased faith in your democratic system and promote the rule of law in Bulgaria, it further reads.
