Antigovernment protests continue despite bad weather

Antigovernment protests in Bulgaria continue for the 42nd consecutive day. According to information of people protesting at the three campsites downtown Sofia- Independence Square, the Sofia University and Eagle’s Bridge, there was no tension and provocations last night. Several tents at Independence Square and in front of the Sofia University were destroyed during last night’s storm and heavy rain. Some tents set up on Eagle’s Bridge also suffered slight damages. However, protesters contend that neither the storms, nor drunk people who are sometimes trying to provoke them would make them stop protesting and demanding the resignation of Bulgaria’s government and this country’s Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev. "Surprise blockades" of institutions are not expected today because of the bad weather.

Protests continue in other Bulgarian towns as well. A car rally took place along the main streets in Gabrovo (Central Bulgaria). There was no traffic congestion, although protesters were driving very slowly. Residents of Blagoevgrad (Southwest Bulgaria) have been demanding the resignations of Borissov cabinet and Prosecutor General Geshev for more than one month now. Nearly 50 protesters in Stara Zagora blocked for one hour the exit towards Trakia motorway. An art installation appeared in front of the municipality building in Varna which illustrates the problem with the broken sewage pipe which polluted Lake Varna recently.
