Bulgarian employers against increase of minimum monthly wage

The Bulgarian Industrial Association does not support the proposal which envisages an increase of the minimum monthly salary in Bulgaria from EUR 312 to EUR 332 as of January 1, 2021.

In an open letter to this country’s Deputy Premier Mariana Nikolova, the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, BIA notes that a sharp rise in the minimum wage would lead to rising unemployment in small and medium-sized municipalities, where local employers are facing huge challenges amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

The employers contend that the planned 6.6% increase of the minimum monthly salary does not correspond to the decline in productivity, GDP and the rising unemployment in the country.
