The language barrier and the lack of information on labor and social security rights in other languages are among the main problems in hiring workers from non-EU countries in Bulgaria, a survey by the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research at CITUB on third-country nationals’ access to the Bulgarian labor market shows.
Due to the impossibility to communicate freely with each other, job applicants from non-EU countries and employers often use an interpreter or a common language - most often Russian or English, CITUB told BNR.
More than half of the respondents who currently work in Bulgaria are attracted by the higher wages offered in this country compared to their country of origin. The most common reason for foreign workers to leave Bulgaria is again higher wages- offered in other EU countries compared to the salaries offered in Bulgaria.
