Bulgaria will receive over 10 billion euros under the bloc's cohesion policy over the next 7 years. A large amount of the funds will be directed at supporting innovation, competitiveness, green and digital transition, the European Commission said.

Brussels will support the Bulgarian authorities and scientists in strengthening cooperation between research institutions and businesses in areas such as the green and digital transition, as well as modern medicine. This will be done through funding for joint research centers.

For the period of 2014-2020, the EU has already invested 160 million euros in such centres within the programme for smart growth of Bulgarian education and science, BNR reported.
