Balkan Stream expected to pay off in 10 years

Bulgaria has some of the most competitive natural gas prices in Europe. They are significantly lower than the stock market ones and this has happened thanks to renegotiated terms with Gazprom and the contract with Azerbaijan, Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova has told BNT.

Consumers and businesses have already felt the positive effect, the minister added, dismissing criticism of "burying 1.5 billion euros" in the Balkan Stream project.

Minister Petkova expects revenues from the pipeline to be 4.5 billion euros, as the investment would pay off in the next 10 years. The infrastructure will be usable for the next 45 years.

Minister Petkova expects the connection with Greece at Komotini - Stara Zagora (IGB) to be built by the end of 2021.
