European Court of Human Rights rules against Bulgaria in discrimination cases involving politician Volen Siderov

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled against Bulgaria over public statements made by the leader of the nationalist Ataka party, Volen Siderov, which were not considered discriminatory by Bulgarian courts. These are Siderov's speeches from 15 years ago, when he was elected MP, BNR reported.

The convictions are on two cases, referring to Siderov's systematic anti-Semitic and anti-Roma rhetoric.

No compensation has been awarded in either case. Bulgaria has been ordered to pay only the legal costs of the cases, which amount to nearly 5,700 euros.
