Angel Papalezov, director of the Cultural and Historical Valuables at the National Police service has officially been charged with involvement in an organized crime group for trafficking in cultural valuables.

“The head of the group is Vassil Bojkov, residing in Dubai,” said prosecutor Valentina Madzharova. He has been released on his own recognizance.

In Valentina Madzharova’s words, the interior ministry was not raided, as Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov said. Only the office of the person under investigation has been searched, she said.

“It is no precedent for the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office to bring criminal charges against a senior police office, it is not the first time,” Valentina Madzharova said.
