Pandemic blocks some polling stations abroad

The polling station in Auckland, New Zealand, remained closed. On November 13, Bulgaria’s Embassy in Australia and the members of the sectional election commission in Auckland were informed that due to the deteriorated epidemic situation in the city, the local authorities had withdrawn their consent to open a polling station for the November 14 elections in Bulgaria. Bulgarians can exercise their right to vote in the only polling station in Christchurch- the first polling station abroad in which election day began. Two hours later, the polling stations in Australia opened doors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Due to cases of Covid-19 among members of some sectional election commissions abroad, the Central Election Commission has urgently asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs whether they could be replaced by alternate members.
