Day of election silence before presidential runoff election

Photo: BGNES

Just as last Saturday, today is a day of election silence, a day on which voters can reflect on their choice for tomorrow’s second round of presidential elections between presidential candidates Rumen Radev, with running mate Iliana Yotova, and Anastas Gerdzhikov and Nevyana Miteva. That is why the law forbids any form of political campaigning 24 hours prior to the election, as well as on election day. Publication of data from any sociological surveys regarding voter attitudes is also forbidden, including on social media.

6,635,305 people are eligible to vote; at the first round of the presidential election 40.5% of them cast their vote. Caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev described the low voter turnout during the first round of the presidential election on 14 November as “worrying” and called on the public to exercise their right to vote.

“I call on the public to go out and vote on Sunday for the president and vice president they think will perform the functions of this institution best. Be active!” he said.
