The 2022 draft budget will be submitted to the National Assembly at the end of January after consultations with the ministries and the social partners, Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev said for the BNR.

In his words, the maximum insurable earnings will be raised. The authorities are also planning to abolish the “weekend tax” and the tax on interest income from bank accounts. Teachers' incomes will also increase. Assen Vassilev stressed that the government has not discussed the possibility to reduce VAT on energy to 10%. "Reducing the prices of electricity, heating and water should be done by reducing costs in the system", Assen Vassilev said.
