The multidisciplinary commission on historical issues must work, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry stated after a conversation between the Foreign Ministers of Bulgaria and North Macedonia Teodora Genchovska and Bujar Osmani.

The Ministry believes that the Commission on Historical and Educational Issues remains fundamental for the development of bilateral relations. It is an essential element of the implementation of the 2017 friendship and goodneighbour agreement whose aim is to overcome the stereotypes of the past, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states.

This position comes in response to a statement by the commission’s co-chair on the North Macedonian side Prof. Dragi Georgiev that the commission should temporarily stop its work.
