A protest rally against energy prices is being held in Sofia. The protest is organized by VMRO. In front of the Council of Ministers, protesters set electricity bills on fire. According to them, the purchase of basic food products has become "an unattainable luxury for many households," BNR reporter Maria Kostova said.

Meanwhile, the CITUB demanded that the moratorium on electricity prices be lifted on March 1st, not April 1st. According to trade unions, the number of people receiving energy subsidies should be doubled in the next heating season.

According to Eurostat, over 2 million Bulgarian households cannot keep their homes warm enough and currently just 15% of them receive energy support.
