At the request of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the UN Security Council held an extraordinary meeting in New York after a Russian attack that sparked a fire at Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

The meeting of the Security Council is yet another meeting at the UN on Ukraine. A resolution calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine was adopted by an overwhelming majority at a special session of the General Assembly on Wednesday.

Ukraine, meanwhile, has said it was ready to hold a third round of ceasefire talks with Russian officials tomorrow or on Sunday. According to Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak, the positions of both sides remain firm. President Zelensky will not make concessions that could discredit the struggle for freedom and territorial integrity of Ukraine, said Mykhailo Podoliak.

In a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia was open to dialogue with Ukraine and all those who wanted peace, provided that all Moscow's demands were met, the Kremlin's press service said.
