It remains unclear how Bulgaria will pay for Russian gas supplies

Bulgaria has already received an official request from Russia to pay for natural gas in rubles. Speaking to BNT, Bulgarian Minister of Energy Alexander Nikolov pointed out that payment in rubles could lead to more expensive supplies. According to Minister Nikolov, it is not clear yet whether there would be a mechanism for payment, but most likely there would be an artificial rise in the price for so-called hostile countries.

According to the minister, the contract with Gazprom is until the end of December and the supplies of Russian gas should not stop until then. He specified that if gas supply from Russia was stopped, talks would be held with the neighboring countries for supplies of liquefied natural gas. Minister Nikolov added that the construction of the inter-connector with Greece should be completed on July 1, after which the actual commercial operation should start in a short time.
