Bulgaria's Prime Minister Kiril Petkov has met with the President of Albania Ilir Meta, who is on an official visit to Sofia. Petkov noted the huge potential for the development of economic co-operation based on good political dialogue. He confirmed Bulgaria's support for Tirana's start of EU membership talks. Connecting infrastructure projects of high priority were discussed and the strategic importance of Corridor № 8 from the Adriatic to the Black Sea was emphasized.

The Bulgarian national minority in Albania is a major bridge of friendship and a factor in strengthening mutual trust, Petkov added, noting how important it is for Bulgarians to take full advantage of the right to learn their mother tongue in Albania.
