Parliamentary majority does not approve payment to road construction companies

The proposal for partial payment to road construction companies will be re-submitted to the National Assembly, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov wrote on Facebook, after, at a late-night sitting, the National Assembly failed to approve payment, by the state, of no less than half of the outstanding amounts to road construction companies for road repair and maintenance.

The draft proposed envisaged an initial payment of EUR 300 million to the road construction sector. The controversy is over whether the road repair and maintenance contracts are legal. Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karajhov urged the MPs to approve the decision because, in his words, the situation is “absolutely critical”.
