Hailstorm inflicts damage in Ruse

Photo: Asya Pencheva, BNR-Ruse

A 10-minute hailstorm hit Ruse at 5.50 AM this morning, with 17.5 litres of precipitation per square metre.

There was a strong wind reaching 50 kms per hour. All boulevards and underpasses were flooded. Traffic was impeded by fallen branches and trees. The Varna-bound train was stopped because of fallen trees on the railway track.

Because of the large-scale repair works of the water and sewerage system taking place in the city, part of the asphalt overlays were washed away. The storm inflicted significant material damage to buildings and vehicles but no one has been reported hurt.
