Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development Grozdan Karadjov discussed, in Sofia, the development of Bulgaria’s infrastructure with Elisa Ferreira, Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms.
“Bulgaria’s development over the past 20 years has widened its differences with other European countries,” Grozdan Karadjov said. “80% of the production capacities are around Trakia motorway, and the North is poor. The existing two-lane roads are not enough for the transportation of commodities. Building good North-South transport corridors would improve Bulgaria’s connectivity with the neighbouring countries and with major ports.”
On her part, Commissioner Elisa Ferreira said that the situation in the country was very similar to the situation in other European countries 15-20 years ago, and added that in the coming years Bulgaria would have access to up to EUR 17 billion from the European Regional Development Fund. However, the investments have to prioritized, she added.
Minister of Regional Development Grozdan Karadjov was the first of the four cabinet ministers from the quota of the party There Is Such a People to have handed in his resignation, after the party’s leader Slavi Trifonov announced, yesterday, he would be withdrawing his ministers from the cabinet.
