Outgoing government decided not to buy grain for the state reserve

The outgoing Bulgarian government has withdrawn its decision to allocate more than 1 billion leva (511 million euros) for the purchase of grain for the state reserve. "Given the expectations of a good new harvest of autumn crops and the fact that there are sufficient quantities of wheat in the grain storage warehouses for a transition reserve, it appears that the country's wheat needs will be easily met," the government press service said in a statement.

This was the reasoning for the state's refusal to intervene in the grain market and to buy produce from Bulgarian grain growers to guarantee the population's needs for the year ahead.
