Poverty line in Bulgaria to be raised to EUR 257 a month in 2023

Photo: archive

By a decision of the caretaker government, the poverty line in Bulgaria is to be raised to EUR 257 per month in 2023, EUR 46 or 22% more than in 2022.

The caretaker cabinet says this is the highest poverty line increase in 10 years. According to the Council of Ministers, the new level of this indicator will close the gap between the national poverty line and the poverty line set down by the EU statistics on income and living conditions (EU-SILC) methodology. The new poverty line is expected to have a favourable effect on the most vulnerable and lowest income groups of the population.
