Forest fire on Bulgarian-Greek border brought under control

The fire in the Rhodope Mountain on the Bulgarian-Greek border is under control, the Director of the Regional Directorate of Fire Safety and Protection of the Population, Commissioner Sergey Zaimov, told BNR's Radio Kardzhali.

On the ground, 30 soldiers from the Haskovo unit joined the fight against the fire. Another 185 people participate in the extinguishing in the area of ​​Kirkovo municipality. 55 are firefighters, 80 are forest officials, 30 are hunters and there are also 20 volunteers from Plovdiv. 

The fire is now enclosed in a square by means of clearings made by a chain machine. 

In 6 days, the fire covered an area of ​​about 20 kilometers in length and about 600 meters in width.
