The Bulgarian town of Byala has been named "European City of Sport 2023". Next year, the coastal town will host over 40 events - football, volleyball, tennis and street basketball tournaments, orienteering, beach sports, swimming, cycling and triathlon competitions, a three-day sports festival with outdoor Pilates, Zumba and stretching classes, training camps, seminars and trainings.
"We impressed the evaluation committee of the Association of European Capitals and Cities of Sport with our excellent sports facilities and rich sports programme. Our hopes are to justify the title," Kristina Kelisakieva, a member of the Byala Municipality team that prepared the city's application, told BNR-Varna.
The largest sports facility in Byala is the Chernomorets complex, which has a football field, auxiliary basketball courts, volleyball, tennis and a large outdoor fitness area.
