Residents of the town of Omurtag (Northeastern Bulgaria) blocked the main road between Sofia and Varna as a sign of protest against the water shortage. It became clear that the town will be left without water on Christmas Eve, representatives of the Water for Omurtag civil association said for the BNR.

A state of emergency has been declared in Omurtag since the end of October.  Currently, water is available twice a week for an hour. Protesters are demanding the replacement of the water network in the town.
