Gambling advertising is banned in Bulgaria, but it can be seen everywhere

In theory, gambling advertising is prohibited by law, but we see it all around us. This happens because of loopholes allowing the advertising of bonus games and online gambling. This is what Bonka Vassileva, a former MP from Democratic Bulgaria and moderator of a discussion on the topic, told BNR last night.

Online gambling has increased many-fold during the Covid-19 pandemic and is mainly targeted at young people using smart devices. Vassileva stressed that there is a great danger of children being hooked on gambling while seeing it as entertainment.

93 million euros were spent in 2022 on TV gambling advertising, whereas in the era of gambling boss Vasil Bozhkov - now fugitive in Dubai - the total was around 25 million euros. Democratic Bulgaria has prepared legislative changes to be introduced in parliament.
