Democratic Bulgaria has demanded that Sofia city mayor Yordanka Fandakova ban the holding of the so-called Immortal Regiment procession in Sofia on 9 May.

They cite as one of their motives Russia’s decision from last year when it declared Bulgaria an “unfriendly” state. One more reason cited by Democratic Bulgaria municipal councilor Simeon Stavrev is the fact that in March, 2023, the International Criminal Court in the Hague issued a warrant for the arrest of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
