“Bulgaria insists on an exception being made for essential oils in the drafting of the European amendments on the use of chemicals,” said Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov in answer to a question from an MP, connected with the concerns of rose growers that the planned changes will prohibit the use of their products in the food and the cosmetics industry. Atanas Pekanov explained that efforts were being made, together with other countries within the EU, so that an exception be made in the texts with regard to essential oils. Despite their biological nature, essential oils, including rose oil, are treated as chemicals and are classified in 4 classes of danger, Atanas Pekanov said and added this could have an effect on their use.
