Production of Bulgarian fruit and vegetables may become just a memory in the future. In a report, scientists from the Agricultural Academy warn that production is at risk, as just one tenth of the arable land in this country is used for growing fruit and vegetables.
The scientists see the reason for this in the higher subsidization of cereals, which occupy 85.5% of arable land. That is why it is increasingly difficult to find Bulgarian vegetables, Bulgarian fruits and Bulgarian potatoes in the country. The lack of labor force also has a significant negative impact.
Therefore, the scientists call for urgent measures - agro-ecological zoning of the territory of the country and development of a departamental cadastre of the agricultural territory.
