President has reservations about procedure for election of acting Prosecutor General

On June 20, the judicial collegium of the Supreme Judicial Council will not discuss the election of Borislav Sarafov as acting Prosecutor General, judge Atanaska Disheva said before today's meeting of the collegium. The decree of President Rumen Radev to release Ivan Geshev from the position of chief prosecutor has already been published in the State Gazette.

"What is happening at the moment somehow raises doubts that the political parties represented in parliament are looking to appoint a person connected to them to the position of chief prosecutor", President Radev said at an energy conference in Sofia. The president called on "society to monitor and exercise all possible control" over Sarafov because, according to Radev, the procedure for his election "did not go through thorough discussions about the professional and moral qualities" of the magistrate.

I don't know how President Radev makes these conclusions. Neither the legislature nor the executive should step outside their powers. This is how Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov responded from to President Radev's comment.
