Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) MP Delyan Peevski, who has been sanctioned under the Global Magnitsky Act, made public the MRF’s position on the proposed amendments to the constitution, saying that the MRF had held talks with GERB and We Continue the Change/Democratic Bulgaria (PP/DB), and adding that he hoped the bill would be submitted jointly.

The MRF is against the idea of mayors being entitled to only two terms of office. “When mayors are successful, people cast their vote three, four times. That means they’ve done the job, what has to be done for the people well, and that is what matters to us,” Delyan Peevski said.

As to the proposal for making the day of the alphabet, Bulgarian culture and education 24 May the national day of Bulgaria, Peevski said the issue was debatable and was being discussed.

The MRF does not object to a change in the statute of caretaker cabinets, so that the regular government remains in office, after resigning, until elections take place.
