The European Parliament has confirmed the Bulgarian candidate for European Commissioner Iliana Ivanova. Her candidacy was approved with 522 votes "for", 27 "against" and 51 "abstentions" for European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. The vote was secret.

The post was vacated earlier this year by Bulgaria's Mariya Gabriel, who was elected Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and rotating Prime Minister of Bulgaria.

Iliana Ivanova was an MEP from 2009 to 2012. From 2013 until the Bulgarian government nominated her for the position of European Commissioner, she was the representative of Bulgaria at the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg.
