Bulgarian capital Sofia celebrates its day with a festive programme

On September 17, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church honors the holy martyrs Faith, Hope and Love and their mother Sofia, and on this day the capital of Bulgaria also celebrates its feast day. 

Today's festivities begins with a solemn water service and an official flag-raising ceremony in front of St Sofia Church in Alexander Nevsky Square. The Sofia Municipality's awards for outstanding cultural achievements will be presented afterwards.

A highlight of the celebrations will be a concert on the Sofia Summer Fest stage in the South Park, featuring Lubo Kirov and the bands Innerglow and Jupiter 7. 

The festive programme also includes an exhibition "Sofia in colours and strokes" with paintings by contemporary Bulgarian artists, an open-air gallery, a puppet-making workshop and a children's interactive festival.
