Antoaneta Stefanova wins silver medal at the European Women's Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship

Antoaneta Stefanova won the silver medal at the European Women's Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship held in Monte Carlo. The Bulgarian finished the 11-round competition with 8.5 points after 6 wins, 5 draws and no losses. Antoaneta Stefanova was only half a point behind Alexandra Kosteniuk (Switzerland) who won the gold medal. The game between the two former world champions in the 9th round was crucial for the first place. The round ended with a draw, although Stefanova had a serious positional advantage in the endgame. Elizabeth Paehtz (Germany) claimed the bronze medal.

The other Bulgarians also performed successfully. Nurgyul Salimova finished 7th with 8 points. Beloslava Krasteva took the 21st position with 7 points. Viktoria Radeva finished 55th. A total of 116 chess players took part at the competition in Monte Carlo.
