Today is Maternity Care Day

21 January is a day for expressing gratitude to doctors and midwives who bring new life into the world, and to the grannies and elderly women who once helped would-be-mothers give birth. In many parts of the country, especially in villages and small towns, the “grannies” get together with their grandchildren to celebrate the day, with reenactments of the rituals from long ago.
