Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov will participate today, February 1, in an extraordinary meeting of the European Council in Brussels. It is to review and strengthen the EU's long-term budget for the period 2021-2027 due to Russia's war against Ukraine, the effects of the pandemic and rising interest rates.

EU leaders will discuss the creation of the Mechanism for Ukraine with a budget of 50 billion euros, as well as the creation of the Strategic Technology Platform for Europe (STEP), which aims to increase the competitiveness of the Union.

Denkov is expected to hold meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The main topics of the talks will be Bulgaria's accession to the Eurozone and the lifting of the Schengen land borders.
