Greening mines: Experts explore eco-rehabilitation through renewable energy

A Round Table on effective reclamation of coal mines brings together experts for a discussion in Sofia today. The roundtable is organised by the association "For the Earth". It will take place at the National House of Science and Technology. 

"The round table Effective Reclamation of Coal Mines will boldly share experiences and talk about timely and adequate reclamation of former coal mines," the organisers said. Experts with in-depth knowledge in the field will explore the possibilities of ecological rehabilitation of former mining sites by building renewable energy sources and energy storage facilities as an alternative to using agricultural or natural land for this purpose.

The conference is being held in the context of a major upcoming reclamation related to the reduction and phasing out of coal as an energy source in Bulgaria.
