On 16 April 2024, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Bulgaria Mr. Alireza Irvash was summoned to a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of Iran’s attack on Israel on 14 April 2024. During the meeting the Director General for Political Affairs Mrs. Gergana Karadjova emphasized to Ambassador Irvash that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns Iran’s attack on Israel in the strongest terms, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. ''This unprecedented in scale and nature act is a serious threat not only to the security of the Middle East, but also poses additional severe challenges to the global security architecture'', the Foreign Ministry said further.

Gergana Karadjova informed Alireza Irvash that guided by this understanding and assessing the catastrophic consequences of a potential large-scale direct military conflict between Iran and Israel, the Bulgarian side once again calls for strict adherence to the fundamental principles of the UN and international law.

In line with the EU statement of 14 April 2024, in order to prevent a spiral of violence, Bulgaria calls on all parties to show maximum restraint and not to take measures that could  further deteriorate the situation.
