"Planet versus Plastic" is the theme of Earth Day, which we celebrate every year on 22 April. "End Plastic Initiatives" is coordinating global activities for the celebration.

Speaking to BNR on the occasion, Aidan Charron, Director of Earth Day, called for an end to the use of plastic for the sake of human health and the planet. According to Sharon, a 60% reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040 can be achieved, including through recycling, which also saves the earth's resources.

Earth Day was first celebrated in the USA and Canada on 22 April 1970 and Bulgaria joined the initiative in 1993. In 2024, the event includes activities in over 190 countries and brings together around 1 billion people.
