The celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the Bulgarian Sunday school in Athens Saints Cyril and Methodius in Athens, Greece started with a dictation in the Bulgarian language and a calligraphy workshop.

Young and older children practiced their spelling and checked their knowledge of Bulgarian grammar, and then went on to try their hand at calligraphy, together with Assoc. Prof. Adriana Lubenova from the Paisii Hilendarski University in Plovdiv. The initiative was not competitive, its aim was purely practical – to demonstrate technical skills in calligraphy in the Cyrillic alphabet and help instill a love of writing and of the Bulgarian language.

On this day, 11 May, when the Orthodox church honours Saints Cyril and Methodius, the events in Athens continue with a scientific forum The Way of LightIt is taking place under the patronage of the Vice President of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova, and aims to present the work of Cyril and Methodius and their followers, to highlight the role of Bulgaria for preserving and popularizing the alphabet they created, and to help popularize the Bulgarian language and culture in other countries with the help of the Bulgarian Sunday schools.
