There has been no change in the security environment since Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area on March 31, caretaker Minister of Interior Atanas Ilkov said during a working meeting with the ambassadors of the EU member states, organized by Hungary, as head of the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Atanas Ilkov outlined the ministry's main priorities, including the preparation and holding of the upcoming early parliamentary elections, border security, countering illegal migration and combating the trafficking of illegal migrants.

Minister Ilkov expressed his expectation that the Council of the EU would soon adopt a decision to abolish border controls on the land borders of Bulgaria and Romania.

Meanwhile, Bulgaria received 60 all-terrain vehicles under an EU project aimed at improving the technical capacity of the Border Police. This is the fourth delivery of border security equipment provided by the EU, reported BTA.
