Thanks to votes from abroad, supporters of constitutional reforms to allow Moldova to join the EU are increasingly gaining ground. This was stated by Vladimir Mitev from Radio Bulgaria in a comment on the referendum held in Moldova on the subject. "Moldovan society is still divided on the issue of its geopolitical future. Any attempts to get closer to the EU will be difficult," commented the journalist in an interview for Horizon Channel of the BNR.

Over 1/4 of Moldova's population lives abroad, Vladimir Mitev pointed out.

According to him, in the referendum, nearly 69% of Bulgarians in Moldova voted against the constitutional changes. If at the national level the candidate for a second presidential term Maia Sandu received 42.07% of the vote and the second candidate, former chief prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo of Gagauzia, received 26.27%, then in the Taraklia region populated by Bulgarians the results are radically different.

There, Stoianoglo wins with 41.74%. Second with 27.9% is independent candidate Victoria Fortuna, who is a former anti-corruption prosecutor. In third place in the Bulgarian region is the former head of the autonomous region of Gagauzia Irina Vlah. Maia Sandu is fourth with only 4.4%.
