Three collared peccaries and a tufted capuchin are the new stars of the Stara Zagora Zoo

The zoo in Stara Zagora has new residents – three female collared peccaries and a male tufted capuchin named Lucho. The animals arrived from the Sofia Zoo under a breeding loan agreement. The practice of zoos exchanging animals for breeding purposes is common in Bulgaria. In this arrangement, the donor retains rights over the offspring of the provided animals and the "loan" is indefinite.

''We had five male collared peccaries, so the arrival of the three females will be a great addition. Lucho will be the first tufted capuchin in our zoo. The animals have been provided for an indefinite period", Stara Zagora Zoo Director Nayden Ilinov said for BTA and added that all the animals in the zoo are fully prepared for the winter season.

The collared peccary is a herbivorous mammal found in North, Central and South America. The tufted capuchin, on the other hand, is one of the most commonly encountered primates in South America.
