In 2024, democracies took advantage of political and technological changes by removing unsuccessful leaders, abandoning outdated ideas and embracing new and well-founded priorities, President Rumen Radev said during the 5th edition of the Sofia Economic Forum. In Rumen Radev words, 2025 is shaping up to be a turning point not only for Bulgaria, the region and Europe, but also for the world.

"The geopolitical security architecture is collapsing, long-established economic models are cracking, recession is settling permanently in leading European economies, and technology continues to develop more and more rapidly", Bulgaria’s head of state went on to say. ''In order to find effective remedies for Europe's treatment, it is not enough to simply point out the problems and symptoms. We must get to the root causes of the current situation. The EU must reform its governance structure and decision-making mechanisms to act quickly and concentrate significant resources on its strategic ambitions'', President Radev pointed out.
