To insist on seeking a military settlement to the conflict in Ukraine is a losing venture. Europe should support the efforts of the US to find a better solution, said President Rumen Radev at the Chief of Defence Annual Conference in Sofia.

At the conference, Admiral Emil Eftimov presented an analysis of the state and preparedness of the armed forces in 2024. We are witnessing an unprecedented change in the security environment in the world and in Europe, and increasing unpredictability, Rumen Radev said.

“A debate on the refocusing of the US from the Euro-Atlantic area to the Pacific region is imminent. The US insists on a speedy settlement of this conflict by diplomatic means. The approach of the European leaders is for continuing the fighting and bringing Ukraine into a position of strength for possible subsequent negotiations. But the entire course of the war so far shows that this is a utopia, it will cause more loss of life, more destruction and the devastation of Ukraine which Europe will ultimately have to pay for,” Rumen Radev said.
