A wave of outrage is sweeping over Bulgaria after a severe accident on the Telish-Radomirtsi road (Pleven region), in which 12-year old Siyana lost her life as she was returning from a holiday with her grandparents. A protest is scheduled for today in Blagoevrgad. Protests took place yesterday in Varna, Sofia and other towns. The protesters are demanding more severe penalties for traffic offenders and more systemic control, especially for speeding. The outrage also targets corruption in public procurement and flawed repairs in the country.

After the accident, experts ascertained there were serious problems with the road surface where the 12-year old girl lost her life. Even the speed limit signs have been put up incorrectly, and the road patches and the uneven road surface pose a serious risk.
