Bulgaria's Ambassador to the United States has resigned

Bulgaria’s Ambassador to the United States Georgi Panayotov has requested an early end to his term, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. The reasons for his resignation were not specified.

Ambassador Georgi Panayotov is a career diplomat with over 25 years of professional experience. On June 7, 2022, the President of the United States Joe Biden accepted the Letter of Credence for Georgi Panayotov as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United States. Panayotov was a former caretaker Minister of Defence in 2022 and, prior to that, the Ambassador of Bulgaria to the United Nations. There is no clarity on who will succeed Panayotov in the position.
